Parkside Fire Company is located about 5 miles south of Philadelphia in Delaware County Pennsylvania. We provide Fire & EMS protection for about 2,500 residents and small businesses in our Primary local and provide mutual aid to surrounding communities. We also provide Advanced Life Support (ALS) with full time Paramedics From Crozer Chester Medical Center. The Fire Department schedules its regular business on Tuesday evenings. Feel free to stop by on any Tuesday night at around 7:00 PM and speak with anyone of our members. We will be more than happy to show you around. The 1st and 4th Tuesday - fire drill night, The 2nd Tuesday - EMS drill night, The 3rd Tuesday - Company Meeting.

The Officers and members of the Parkside Fire Company want to thank John J. Hudyma on 31 years as the Chief of the Holmes Fire Company. John has decided to step down as chief, and allow his son John Jr take the reigns. RIT HEADS TO EDDYSTONE ON THE 2ND ALARM

In the early morning hours of March 12th, RIT 45 was dispatched to 909 Saville Ave in Eddystone for the RIT assist on a 2 alarm working building fire. Rescue 45 arrived on scene and performed various RIT duties on the fire ground. Thankfully no deployment was necessary, company 45 was made available shortly after.

On Sunday February 12Th 2012 seven  members of Parkside took the short drive down the interstate to Upper Chichester station 40 for a 8 hour lecture on combat ready. The members learned a lot in 8 hours In a lot of the guys opinion they learned a lot more in that short 8 hours then they have in all there fire training. Below you will find a brief summary of what the men of traditions training went over. From all the members at Parkside a big thank you goes out to Traditions training for opening our eyes and expanding our minds!

 

“Combat Ready” Firefighting

This unique classroom seminar will cover a variety of topics affecting today’s firefighters. We will cover operational issues with an emphasis on real-world firefighting tricks and techniques. Some of the topics discussed will include:

  • Going the Distance” - Extended length attack lines and getting water to the fire, quickly. Discussion on the “how” and the “why” these techniques can improve the operations of any engine company.
  • Hydraulics vs. Halligans” - A discussion on the appropriate use and selection of forcible entry tools, as well as discussion on “street-smart” tool modifications and creations.
  • Tradition & Morale in the Firehouse” - An interactive discussion on firehouse life & morale as well as the mindset of today’s firefighter.
  • Two-Team Trucks” - During the attack phase of a fire, there are many jobs that the truck company must accomplish. We will discuss how to use your resources to accomplish this efficiently and quickly.
  • The Combat-Ready Firefighter” - Getting your mind and equipment “in the zone” to be as effective and efficient as possible.

 
Traditions Training llc
Police chase ends with Accident/entrapment

On February 11Th 2012  at  1938 Company 45 was dispatched to Edgemont AV and E Chelton RD for the Accident with entrapment. Rescue 45 with 4 and Chief 45 went responding. Rescue 45 arrived on location to find on vehicle into a building with one subject trapped at gun point.  Chief 45 arrived and established Chelton Rd command. Rescue 45 went to work cribbing, and placing rescue tools in service while medic 45 started patient  care. TAC 45 arrived on scene and assisted Rescue 45 with a door pop. Patient was extricated at 1951hrs and the scene was turned over to the police. This incident started out as a car jacking and when the police tried to stop the vehicle, the driver lead police on a high speed chase to where he crashed. Company 45 was back in quarters at 2036 hrs.

On February 11Th 2012 Chester City fire dept. was dispatched to 1025 Parker St for the Dwelling fire. Chester 11 arrived  to find a 2 story twin with fire showing. Chester units went all hands and Chester 11 requested the 2ND alarm which brought in Ladder 65,Rescue 52, TAC 45 and Canteen 47. TAC 45 went responding with 4 and arrived on location and set RIT up on the Alpha side of the Dwelling. TAC 45's officer did a 360 of the dwelling while crews started saws and staged equipment. TAC 45 operated on scene for 2 hours before being released by Chester 11 and no RIT services were needed. While returning Fire board notified TAC to copy and respond for a medical assist in our first due. TAC 45 operated on that call for 30 minutes and was back in quarters  at 0521hrs


 
Rescue runs a wreck

On February 10th 2012  at 1119 hrs Rescue and Medic 45 was dispatched for the accident with entrapment vehicle reported in the house in the Park Vallei section of Parkside. Medic 45 was on location moments after dispatch to find Pick up truck that had drove into the end unit of the row and had backed out and struck another small car on the way out with negative entrapment. Rescue 45 with 4 went on location and controlled all utilities and requested Peco to make the response. Rescue 45 turned the scene over to Parkside car one and went available for service by 1320 hrs.

4 Alarm Apartment Fire Chester City

At 0029hrs the Chester Fire Department was dispatched to 2701 Madison street for the building fire. At 0035 Engine 82 arrived on location  to find a 3 story apartment building with heavy fire through the roof, and requested the second alarm . The 2nd alarm brought RIT 45 to the scene. TAC 45 responded with four men and went on location and set up at the alpha side of the building TAC 45's crew threw numerous ground ladders to the alpha  side of the building, did a 360 of the building and requested a 2nd RIT due to the size and amount of manpower operating inside the building. This fire ended up going 4 alarms and there was no incidents where RIT services were needed. Company 45 operated 2 hours and 45 mins  before being released by Chester 11. Thanks to Engine 71 for the Engine transfer to our quarters while we were out.
